Riciclare distretti industriali è il ventottesimo volume della collana Re-cycle Italy. La collana restituisce intenzioni, risultati ed eventi dell’omonimo programma triennale di ricerca – finanziato dal Ministero dell’Istruzione, dell’Università e della Ricerca – che vede coinvolti oltre un centinaio di studiosi dell’architettura, dell’urbanistica e del paesaggio, in undici università italiane. Obiettivo del progetto Re-cycle Italy è l’esplorazione e la definizione di nuovi cicli di vita per quegli spazi, quegli elementi, quei brani della città e del territorio che hanno perso senso, uso o attenzione.
Questo libro raccoglie una serie di progetti per il territorio del distretto ceramico di Sassuolo, sviluppati nell’ambito dell’attività didattica e di ricerca da un gruppo di urbanisti del Politecnico di Milano. Alla base delle proposte sta la convinzione che questo distretto – come altri distretti industriali italiani in trasformazione – riuscirà a rimanere attrattivo e vitale solo se il progetto urbanistico saprà coniugare le esigenze delle imprese e della società locale con la ricerca di qualità nello spazio urbano, rurale e naturale.

Recycling Industrial Districts is the twenty-eighth volume of the “Re-cycle Italy” series. The series returns intentions, results and events of a three-year research program – funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research – which has involved more than one hundred scholars in architecture, urban planning and landscaping from eleven Italian universities. “Re-cycle Italy” program targets the exploration and the development of new lifecycles for those spaces of the city and the territory that have lost meaning, use and care.
This book gathers a set of projects concerning the ceramics district of Sassuolo, conceived as part of the research and teaching activities of a group of urban planners from Politecnico di Milano. The proposals are formulated on the basis of the belief that this district – as well as other Italian industrial districts undergoing transformation – will manage to remain attractive and viable only if urban planning will combine the needs of both enterprises and local community with urban, rural and natural quality.
